St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, is the flagship hospital of the Franciscan Health System, a five-hospital organization based in Tacoma. Franciscan is affiliated with Catholic Health Initiatives, a national non-profit organization with headquarters in Englewood, Colo.
Designated as a Level II trauma center, St. Joseph is also licensed for 343 beds. Its services include 24-hour emergency medical care; inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services; heart and vascular care; orthopedic services; cancer care; diagnostic imaging; physical, speech and occupational therapies; hospice; and a voluntary admit adult inpatient mental health program.
St. Joseph Medical Center was called St. Joseph Hospital when it was established by the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in 1891.
